TSCM sweep vs bug sweep: what is the difference?
The phrases are often used interchangeably, but the scope behind them matters. “Bug sweep” can describe anything from a quick radio scan to a full technical surveillance counter-measures engagement.

A narrow bug sweep
At the weakest end of the market, a sweep may look only for devices transmitting at that moment. That can miss wired microphones, dormant devices, stored-data recorders and threats using familiar networks.
02
A TSCM approach
TSCM combines risk assessment, spectrum work, physical inspection and examination of relevant systems. It documents limitations and translates findings into client actions.
03
Sweep versus audit
A sweep examines spaces for technical surveillance threats. An independent TSCM audit reviews control effectiveness, evidence and programme gaps for Risk or Audit stakeholders. When you need that assurance lane rather than a site sweep, see TSCM Audit.
04
Buy the scope, not the label
Ask exactly which spaces, device states, networks, vehicles, physical areas and report outputs are covered. The acronym itself is not proof of competence.
